It’s about time to harvest the lavender in the garden. I always love making perfumed bags to give away or to decorate the house, but this year in stead of making bags I decided to make mini cushions with stenciled designs on them.
You will only need:
-Stencil (We have chosen the shells and the “sweet dreams” stencils)
-Fabric (We have used old bed sheets)
- Pillow filling or cotton.
- Sewing machine or needle and thread.
This project is really easy. Fistly you have to stencil the chosen design on the fabric, you can stencil someone’s name, some flowers, birds, feathers, or anything you like. Remember that to make the paint stay and become washable you have to iron it first (not directly, but using an oven paper in between the iron and the fabric).
We recomend you two apply the markal paint using these fantastic synthetic brushees. You don't have to apply the paint tapping as if it were acrylic, in stead make circle motions. No matter how clumsy you are, this paint is very thick and the edges will always look nice and sharp.
Afterwards you have to decide the shape you want the cushion to be. It can have a cloud shape, it can be made round or with the shape of the stencil contour. You can draw the shape on the fabric with a pencil.
You have to cut to identical pieces and sew them together leaving a gap to stuff the cushion.
Once you have stuffed the cushion with the filling and the lavender you can then sew the gap you left unsewed.
That’s it! There you have your perfumed cushions! You can give them away as gifts to friends or use them to perfume the clothes in the drawers. Another option is to use a ribbon to hang them around the house.
